Surveillance after 9-11 in the United States Abstract In this article I will be talking about surveillance powers in response from terrorism. I will be talking about the 9-11 bombings which was a day that no one can forget and which shuck up the whole of America. I will examines the factors contributing to the escalation in surveillance and its effects after 9-11 and what is being done against security and stopping terrorism happening. On September 11th 2001, the United States was attacked by Al Qaeda terrorists. Two planes were hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Centre, killing almost three thousand people in New York. The 9/11 event has impacted the nation as a whole. The attacks killed 2,996. Still today victims’ families are strong and willing to carry on and one person said â€Å"If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate† (Tween Us, 7 inspiring quotes about 9-11). It shows that even if people die life goes on and that they will never be forgotten. Al Qaeda made a life changing moment for the whole world but the United States stands strong. After 9-11 In recent years U.S. police have been given greater surveillance powers in response to apparent threats from crime, drugs, and terrorism. In the post-9/11 era, changes in federal law and technological advances have expanded the circumstances and methods by which the police may engage in surveillance of civil activities. I think that police surveillance has reduced individual privacy protections and impacted aspects of civil life. Security and secretly recording/watching people became a top priority and our national security received a makeover to make sure that we are never again faced with a tragedy such as this.
